JKW & Construction Sites

“Landtech were the only company that talked any sense, all the other companies tried to scare me. They were practical and highly efficient.” -- Mike Griffiths – MGR Developments

Where sufficient time has been allowed for eradication using herbicides, even the most heavily infested sites can be treated for just a few thousand pounds. Even where excavation is the only option, we are still able to achieve massive savings by supervising the excavation to ensure only contaminated ground is removed.

For example: The quantity surveyor for Wimpey Homes estimated that 5,000 tonnes of contaminated soil would have to be removed, based on the Environment Agency code of practice. This would have cost somewhere in the region of £210,000. But with careful on site supervision from our senior agronomist just 700 cubic metres was removed at a cost of £40,000.

Another example is the £25 million Schools project for Glasgow City Council undertaken by Barr Construction. The proposed site for the school was heavily infested and time was a major factor as building was due to commence immediately. It was estimated that 8,700 cubic metres would have to be removed costing £430,000. In reality it was more like 1,200 cubic metres costing £57,750. Saving the client approximately £370,000. The actual savings tend to be even greater due to the reduced cost of backfill.

MGR Developments based in Worcester is another example but on a much smaller scale. A small property developer proposing to build 3 houses only found the land was infested after he’d bought it. He was quoted £50,000 to remove it, making the development uneconomic. The actual cost to successfully remove the Knotweed was just £1,500.
